Howard Leslie Shore is een Canadees componist van filmmuziek. Voor de televisie-show Saturday Night Live verzorgde hij de muziek van 1975 tot 1980. daarna begon hij zich toe te leggen op filmmuziek.

Voor zijn muziek voor The Lord of the Rings won hij drie Oscars: één in 2002 voor The Fellowship of the Ring (beste originele muziek) en twee in 2004 voor The Return of the King, (beste originele muziek en beste originale nummer voor Into the West, gezongen door Annie Lennox).

Voor laatste film kreeg hij ook de Golden Globe Awards en de Grammy Awards in dezelfde categorieën. Hij won nog twee extra Golden Globe Awards (voor The Aviator en Eastern Promises) en twee extra Grammy Awards (voor de twee eerste delen van The Lord of The Rings).
