#1 Elephants live in families for all their life and know their relatives – even grandparents. Though they live in matriarchal groups, a male will always protect the female who is carrying his child

The Canadian Goose mates for life and I saw a video once of a gander whose mate was shot and killed during hunting season and he stayed with her quite a long time after and he kept calling mournfully, as if his heart was broken. I believe, when the hunter shot her and then filmed the video of the two of them he had second thoughts about what he had done.

Judy - I had a similar experience many years ago. I shot a goose from a flock flying over and it’s mate left the flock and followed it down - only to be shot by another hunter. It was then that I learned they mated for life. I never hunted geese again after that experience.
